These are exciting times for our Oral History project, as we have two opportunities to come and work with us…
Firstly, as you may have seen, we are looking for an intern this summer to help us with the planning and organisation of our project. The successful candidate will be working to compile background information on possible new interviewees and help us to identify who we should approach. They will also review our background materials for volunteers as well as getting some interviewing done themselves. We’re looking for a student or early career researcher, and there is a stipend attached. We’re pretty flexible on working hours and start dates, and expect most of the work to be undertaken at home with a base in London or the Midlands. Full details, and how to apply, are available here. The application deadline is 3rd March 2023 with interviews expected during the week of 11 April.
Secondly, we are delighted to be collaborating with Dr Sally Horrocks and Dr Richard Whitaker at the University of Leicester on a Doctoral Training Partnership Collaborative Studentship: ‘Minority Ethnic MPs in the UK Parliament since 1987’. This is funded by the ESRC through the Midlands Graduate School, starting in October 2023. We are very excited about this project as it aims to improve the diversity of our Oral History archive by focusing on the experiences of MPs from minority ethnic backgrounds. We’re looking to explore the political careers of minority ethnic MPs from across the political spectrum and link those stories to broader narratives of recent British history. The successful candidate will interview for our project and work alongside us to share this research as part of their PhD.
You can read the advert in full here, with all details about how to apply included. The application deadline is 23rd February 2023 and we expect interviews to take place on 7th March.
